Hand Pieced Hexagon Pincushion

Description of Class

Ever wish for a portable sewing project for long waits at the doctor’s office, soccer practice, or travel? Or something that cen be sewn from the comfort of your recliner in front of the tv? In this class, students will learn hand-piecing skills, including the use of inked template stamps from designer Cindy Blackberg. Students will stamp and hand-piece a Grandmother’s Flower Garden block in class, practicing the quilters knot, intersecting seams, and sequential piecing. The block will then be turned into a pincushion atop a canning jar.

Fabric Requirements:
As a student, you will have the choice of making a Grandmother’s Flower Garden block using the mini ½” stamp of the medium-sized ¾” stamp. You may bring additional fabric if they with you, if you wish to make additional blocks.
For one flower you should bring the following;
a fat eighth of a light background fabric
a fat eighth of a colored print for the flower petals
a 3” block of contrasting fabric for the flower center-
OR come with a pile of scraps

Supplies Needed:
Basic Sewing Kit (straight pins, fabric scissors, paper scissors, needles, thread, notebook, pen/pencils, ruler, rotary cutter, cutting mat, iron, and of course chocolate)
A canning jar, any size.
Hand-Quilting Thread
Thimble
Small cutting mat
Stamps ($18.00) and ink pads ($9.00) will be available for purchase if requested by students.  Instructors will provide pins & needles
Slippers, Pajamas, & Easy-chair are Optional
