In this class you will learn to use a straight ruler and a set of circle rulers to create beautiful designs with very little marking on your domestic machine. Learn how to set up your machine for rulerwork, how to handle the rulers safely, get tips for ruler placement and see many types of rulers that are available and what to look for in a good ruler. You must have a ruler foot for your machine. Many of the major sewing machine brands now have their own ruler foot, including Bernina, Janome, Babylock, and Husqvarna Viking. Westalee also offers a generic foot, just let them know whether your machine has a high or low shank. Rulerwork can open up so many possibilities for your machine quilting. Learn how much fun it can be.

3 Bags full is one of my most requested classes. These sassy duffle type bags come in 3 sizes; Small for all your personal items, Medium for your weekend gear, and Large which is big enough for a vacation! We will make the medium size bag in class. The bags utilize pre-quilted fabric so find some really fun fabrics and do a little bit of simple quilting with cotton batting or foam in the middle OR purchase good quality pre-quilted fabric. Either way, select sturdy, washable fabrics because you’re going to love these bags so much they will constantly be used!

Shining Brightly https://blackfootquiltfest.com/shining-brightly/ Fri, 15 Nov 2019 18:20:10 +0000 http://blackfootquiltfest.com/?p=2888 Continue reading ]]> Description of Class

Shining Brightly class will include some new tips and tricks for creating a miniature quilt. It is constructed “strippy style”, a method that eliminates unnecessary seams, thus simplifying construction. We will cover how to most easily make quarter square triangles accurately. The original quilt is made with linen as the background fabric (which is what will be used in the kit as well). For that reason, we will also cover the ins and outs of using unusual fabrics in a quilt, including discussion on when to use fusibles to stabilize the background.

Pemberley is a very fun quilt to make. I consider it to be a planned scrappy quilt in that many scraps are used, but some of the fabrics are the same throughout the entire quilt. It is a fairly easy quilt to make. We will learn a few methods of making flying geese, and a great way to make several half square triangles at one time. Also, a diagonal setting (and the math necessary to figure it out) will be covered.
